First Live Performance!!

Posted by Shannon Burt on Monday, July 5, 2010, In : Entertainment

Yesterday was the end of a perfect weekend.  I had to work but the event Scott sent me too was amazing.  It was the last day of the Pick’n by the Pond Festival in Cargill and the whole event was a great success.  I arrived at the event a couple hours early so I could have breakfast with everyone and meet some new people!  Seven bucks for all you can eat!  Not too bad!  There were a lot of people that were leaving already but many stayed for the Open Mic Worship Jam Session.  I met with Denn...

The Best Day I’ve had in a very long time!!

Posted by Shannon Burt on Sunday, July 4, 2010, In : Personal Life and Opinions

I was all over the place today.  The days and events are starting to blur into one great epic summer event.  So much went on I don’t know where to begin, so I’ll start at the end.  Right now I’m in the back of the Ridgeline listening to great rock and roll.  I wanted to go to Big Music Fest since the day I heard we were totally involved.  Well The Bull and The One are involved.  AM920 not so much!  LOL  Anyway, I had permission from my boss to attend however I thought I should grab hold...

Canada Day 2010

Posted by Shannon Burt on Friday, July 2, 2010, In : Entertainment

It has been too long since I went to a fireworks display.  I think it was a good thing to take over ten years away from them.  It made the experience so much better.  Wednesday night I went to Goderich and got to see them light up Lake Huron plus the company I was with made it worth every moment.  The real show was the first of July.  Wingham was the place to be.  I heard they spent almost thirty thousand dollars on this years show and I think that’s a pretty good estimate.  It was at River...

Smoke Free for 8 Days

Posted by Shannon Burt on Monday, March 8, 2010, In : Personal Life and Opinions
This Driven to Quit program is pretty cool!  Every few days they send me an email to encourage my progress.  It might seem like a little thing, but it’s really neat to wake up to an email instead of a cigarette.

Home Away From Home

Posted by Shannon Burt on Saturday, March 6, 2010, In : School
The Clone Studio at Conestoga College is the best place to complete assignments.  It’s quite, calm and there always seems to be someone around to answer any question I might have!  This is true most of the time, but not on Friday nights.   I wouldn’t expect anyone to spend their Friday at school so I’m not surprised.  I actually enjoyed being here until midnight last night!  I might do it again next week!

A Lesson Learned

Posted by Shannon Burt on Thursday, March 4, 2010, In : Personal Life and Opinions

I don’t normally look at any forwarded e-mails unless I’m home.  I just don’t find the time.  I now have another reason not to look at them until I’m alone.  I’m not going to say who sent this one because I don’t want to put them on the spot, but I had to do some quick thinking to hide the contents from my classmates.  The worst part was that the subject line seemed harmless!!  LOL    I’ll never make that mistake again!!

Rest in Peace

Posted by Shannon Burt on Tuesday, March 2, 2010, In : Personal Life and Opinions

My friend Shelly and I lost a good friend today.  He lived much longer than expected for his breed, but it seems the longer a member of your family is with you the harder it is to say goodbye.  I know we did the humane thing by taking him to the vet.  I know it would be selfish of us to keep him around just for our own comfort, but still there is a part of me that will always miss having him greet me when I came to visit.  It didn’t matter where he was, it always seemed like he kn...

Driven to Quit!!

Posted by Shannon Burt on Monday, March 1, 2010, In : Personal Life and Opinions

Today marks the start of the Driven to Quit Challenge.  I should have blogged about this earlier but I find the less time I spend thinking about the fact I am quitting the easier it is to forget about cigarettes.  The last smoke I had was Saturday afternoon and that day it was the only one I had.  I have smoked since I was 18 and that would make it 12 years.  I’ve tried to quit before but I think I didn’t really want to.  The key is to want it for my life.  There is just no reas...

Breaking the Gold Record

Posted by Shannon Burt on Monday, March 1, 2010, In : Sports
I have to admit a few days ago I had my doubts about our boys pulling it off.  I know I don’t have to go through the play by play because everyone was watching, but did they have to make it so dramatic?!   LOL   I mean it seemed like a plot right out of a movie.  The coolest thing that came out of these Olympics is the fact that our women had such a great showing on the podium.  If it wasn’t for everyone’s hard work we would have never beat the record for most gold medals i...

Olympics on the Big Screen

Posted by Shannon Burt on Saturday, February 27, 2010, In : Sports

Cineplex Entertainment and CTV have been broadcasting the Olympics since the opening ceremonies.  Last night was the first time I experienced the games on the big screen.  It was really cool how the night came to be!  My plans had fallen through for the night so I thought I’d check out at least one game in super size J On the way out of my building I ran into my buddy Mike, who had gotten of work early.  Perfect timing if you ask me. He was just going to watch the game at home.  I c...

If You’re Scared of the Snow, Stay Off the Roads!!

Posted by Shannon Burt on Tuesday, February 23, 2010, In : Personal Life and Opinions

What is wrong with people when the weather turns ugly?  I don’t think anyone knows the answer to this question, but I can tell you this, most people should not be driving in bad weather.  There are so many ways for you to get around and the roads would be much safer without you, out there!  I got cut off 4 times in a 30 minute drive.  I wouldn’t mind so much normally but when I have to slam on my breaks to avoid you and slide in snow, there’s something seriously wrong with the pi...

The Game We Wanted So Bad!!!!

Posted by Shannon Burt on Monday, February 22, 2010, In : Sports

Canada pushed as hard as they could but it wasn’t enough.  At the end of the first period Canada out shot the U.S. 19-6 but the U.S. were still up by one.  Canada came back to tie it up early in the second.   Shots on goal were 23 - 9 in favour of Canada at the half way mark of the second period.  This to me says they should have had more goals.   A hit late in second involving three players from Canada had fans worried but luckily all were able to continue.  Just minutes later the U.S. too...

Why So Often?!?

Posted by Shannon Burt on Saturday, February 20, 2010, In : Questions With Too Many Answers
The price of gas is the most unpredictable thing in this country.  Actually it is so unpredictable that it has become predictable, making us buy it more often.  I have topped up my tank, from half, 3 times in the past 2 weeks just because the price was under .90 cents.  The thing I don’t understand is how the price can increase so much in one day?!?!?  0.12 cents!?!?!  REALLY??  COME ON!!!!  I wish the price could stay the same for a week.  Then on Thursdays they could announce wh...

Open Pandora’s Box!!

Posted by Shannon Burt on Friday, February 19, 2010, In : Entertainment

I saw Avatar for the third time in 3D last night.  James Cameron and his team have made a movie experience I’ll truly miss seeing on the big screen.

Picture yourself trained to be the best you can be, fighting each day for the hope of a better life for all of humanity.  Then, one day having that ripped away from you and being held captive by a four wheeled assist vehicle.  That is where we find ourselves.  It would seem the lead character, Jake Sully, has been in a wheel chair for ju...

Early?! When I was sure I was late!!!

Posted by Shannon Burt on Thursday, February 18, 2010, In : Personal Life and Opinions

I was up all night tossing and turning.  I knew I had to be up for an appointment at noon, too.  Man, I just wanted to sleep.  I called in knowing I would be late for 12:00 and left a message.  When I finally arrived, my appointment was for 12:30.  Thank God!  That has never happened to me.  It feels really good to make a mistake like this.

Elderly Forgotten?

Posted by Shannon Burt on Wednesday, February 17, 2010, In : Personal Life and Opinions

I only have one Grandparent left in my life and sometimes I go weeks without speaking with her.  It’s not that I don’t care about her or that I don’t want to visit her.  It’s just, sometimes I find myself too focused on my own life.  I’ve heard other people say they don’t like spending time with their Grandparents because they always tell the same stories over and over again.  I totally see their point!  However I’ve come up with a solution.  I find that when I visit my Grandm...

Feb 14th...Cash Grab!!

Posted by Shannon Burt on Monday, February 15, 2010, In : Personal Life and Opinions

Valentine’s Day is just an excuse to raise the price of roses and have people spend way too much on things they don’t need.  Roses only last five days, if you’re lucky.  And I find a lot of women don’t want chocolate and candy.  They say “it’s too close to Christmas”.  I can understand that!!     I have tried very hard over the years not to spend money on the typical gifts.  I've found breakfast in bed is always a pleasant gesture, but it's nice to do that more than just once ...

The Underdog Had It's Day

Posted by Shannon Burt on Monday, February 8, 2010, In : Sports

The Saints ran away with the show.  Matt Stover, of the Indianapolis Colts put the first points on the board and at 42 years of age, is the oldest player to ever suit up for the Super Bowl.  It looked like the Colts were well on their way in the first quarter with ten unanswered points.  But man!  The Saints came out fighting after half time.  The Who rocked the house during halftime and perpetuated the energy for the Saints.  The opening kickoff of the second half was the start of the end...

Super Bowl Sunday

Posted by Shannon Burt on Sunday, February 7, 2010, In : Sports

This year’s Super Bowl is sure to impress the football fan in all of us.  The Indianapolis Colts are veterans to the Championship game, while the New Orleans Saints enter their debut.  I think the half time show will be one for the record books.  The Who have finally made it to the big game.  Pete Townshend said the hardest thing was ``putting 40 years of music into twelve minutes."
