First Live Performance!!

Yesterday was the end of a perfect weekend. I had to work but the event Scott sent me too was amazing. It was the last day of the Pick’n by the Pond Festival in Cargill and the whole event was a great success. I arrived at the event a couple hours early so I could have breakfast with everyone and meet some new people! Seven bucks for all you can eat! Not too bad! There were a lot of people that were leaving already but many stayed for the Open Mic Worship Jam Session. I met with Dennis “Fingers” Madge the organiser and found out that the event was up 30% in attendance this year! It was a great interview. I only wish I had my H2 on me for the recording! I won’t make that mistake again! It’s time to be prepared. Speaking of being prepared. At the end of the interview I asked if I could introduce myself and give away a few prizes! There’s was no hesitation! Hahahaha, here is the point of my story. As I stood in the wings one of the performers asked if I was going to sing a few songs with them? Oh boy!! I said sure if he had the lyrics At least there were only about a hundred people left in the audience! We found 2 songs I knew! Amazing Grace and A Closer Walk With Thee! I have to say it was a little nerve racking but Jim Beech made me feel so comfortable after. He said to the crowd that I deserved a bigger hand because of the challenge I took to get up there and he said to everyone that there’s definite potential for my singing!! I think that was the greatest moment of this summer! It will be tough to top that one, but I’ll try!! Until next time enjoy every moment.

The Best Day I’ve had in a very long time!!

I was all over the place today. The days and events are starting to blur into one great epic summer event. So much went on I don’t know where to begin, so I’ll start at the end. Right now I’m in the back of the Ridgeline listening to great rock and roll. I wanted to go to Big Music Fest since the day I heard we were totally involved. Well The Bull and The One are involved. AM920 not so much! LOL Anyway, I had permission from my boss to attend however I thought I should grab hold of my job description and create an obligation to the Patriots Campout Weekend. Headlining tonight was Peter Irwin and the Jail House Band in Mount Forest! It was wildly entertaining and I have a chance to see them again next weekend! For those of you not familiar. Irwin is an award winning Elvis Impersonator and man is he talented. So I went to the show and got some pictures for the CKNX website, by that time it was eleven o’clock so I headed home to Wingham...I turned on the Bull and wouldn’t you know they were broadcasting Big Music Fest. It might have just been live recordings of the performers and packaged into a show, but never the less , Finger Eleven was on and I heard 3 of their tunes followed by the band tied for first place on my list of all time favourite bands of all time! Our Lady Peace! I had the most exhilarating ride home! I was so pumped. There’s just something about live entertainment that just brings out the coolest feelings and adrenaline. I have seen OLP live once and it was last September so it is still completely fresh in my memory. Unlike some things!! LOL Sorry I digress. Where was I? Oh yah, k. So I was driving home and it felt like I was right there. The only difference was the lack of sweat and violent mosh pit! I think I’m better off the way things worked out, because now I find myself sitting in the back of my truck rock’n in the free world to Neal Young on my sleeping bag with my lap top. Queen Fat Bottom Girls...come on!! LOL K, anyway. I’m camping in my driveway at home! I don’t know about you but that’s pretty hilarious, but ya gotta work with what you’ve got, right? LOL This is one of the most surreal, calming, entertaining, interesting, spontaneous, clever, satisfying night of my life. Well there is one thing missing, but, come on, why do we always look at what else we want instead of what we have!! (Brown Eyed Girl) That’s it for now. I think I’ll lay back for a bit and enjoy. Canada Day 2010

It has been too long since I went to a fireworks display. I think it was a good thing to take over ten years away from them. It made the experience so much better. Wednesday night I went to Goderich and got to see them light up Lake Huron plus the company I was with made it worth every moment. The real show was the first of July. Wingham was the place to be. I heard they spent almost thirty thousand dollars on this years show and I think that’s a pretty good estimate. It was at Riverside Park right in the ball diamond and we had front row seats. The organisers really took their sweet time getting it started but it was so worth the wait. We were as close as we could get, right at the caution tape. When it first started I was in awe at the pure size of the explosions being up that close...and it only intensified. My neck started cramping a bit so I took my sleeping bag and laid down. We were so close some of the fireworks expanded passed my field of view. Yah, that`s how close we were. It got to the point that we thought some of the rouge fire balls were going to come down upon us. I saw the most amazing, bright, white explosions that I nicknamed The Umbrellas cause the lights didn`t burn out as quickly as others and when they fell from the sky they were so spread out that it covered us with light. It reminded me of a scene from Avatar or The Little Mermaid. I felt like a kid again. The intensity gained momentum and at one point I found myself laughing to tears at the wonder of colors and thunderous cracks in sky and booming tremors through the ground. I wonder what it would be like to imagine the effect your looking for and designing some of these remarkable fire canons. All in all, money well spent Wingham! Thank you for the memories!

This Driven to Quit program is pretty cool! Every few days they send me an email to encourage my progress. It might seem like a little thing, but it’s really neat to wake up to an email instead of a cigarette.

Home Away From Home

The Clone Studio at Conestoga College is the best place to complete assignments. It’s quite, calm and there always seems to be someone around to answer any question I might have! This is true most of the time, but not on Friday nights. I wouldn’t expect anyone to spend their Friday at school so I’m not surprised. I actually enjoyed being here until midnight last night! I might do it again next week!

A Lesson Learned

I don’t normally look at any forwarded e-mails unless I’m home. I just don’t find the time. I now have another reason not to look at them until I’m alone. I’m not going to say who sent this one because I don’t want to put them on the spot, but I had to do some quick thinking to hide the contents from my classmates. The worst part was that the subject line seemed harmless!! LOL I’ll never make that mistake again!!

My friend Shelly and I lost a good friend today. He lived much longer than expected for his breed, but it seems the longer a member of your family is with you the harder it is to say goodbye. I know we did the humane thing by taking him to the vet. I know it would be selfish of us to keep him around just for our own comfort, but still there is a part of me that will always miss having him greet me when I came to visit. It didn’t matter where he was, it always seemed like he knew the sound of my voice and made it a point to come and be close to me. Teezee, you will be missed.

Driven to Quit!!

Today marks the start of the Driven to Quit Challenge. I should have blogged about this earlier but I find the less time I spend thinking about the fact I am quitting the easier it is to forget about cigarettes. The last smoke I had was Saturday afternoon and that day it was the only one I had. I have smoked since I was 18 and that would make it 12 years. I’ve tried to quit before but I think I didn’t really want to. The key is to want it for my life. There is just no reason for me to keep smoking and there are so many reasons to quit. This is finally it. I will keep you posted on my progress. Wish me luck.

Breaking the Gold Record

I have to admit a few days ago I had my doubts about our boys pulling it off. I know I don’t have to go through the play by play because everyone was watching, but did they have to make it so dramatic?! LOL I mean it seemed like a plot right out of a movie. The coolest thing that came out of these Olympics is the fact that our women had such a great showing on the podium. If it wasn’t for everyone’s hard work we would have never beat the record for most gold medals in the same Winter Olympics. We now hold the record with 14! Great Job Canada!!

Olympics on the Big Screen

Cineplex Entertainment and CTV have been broadcasting the Olympics since the opening ceremonies. Last night was the first time I experienced the games on the big screen. It was really cool how the night came to be! My plans had fallen through for the night so I thought I’d check out at least one game in super size J On the way out of my building I ran into my buddy Mike, who had gotten of work early. Perfect timing if you ask me. He was just going to watch the game at home. I couldn’t have that!! LOL When we got there, I got the best parking spot possible, too!! It was like the planets were alining, lol! (I love when that happens) I have to say it was well worth seeing our Canadians qualify for the gold medal game tomorrow. It was really neat to be in a crowd of people watching the game in a theatre. The three unanswered Canadian goals were amazing to see on a 60 foot screen. Did our boys really need to make it such a nail bitter?
